My name is Petra, and I’m a photographer + retoucher based in Rijeka, Croatia.
In 2014 I graduated from the School of Applied Arts where I learned what I thought was everything about making art. Some years later, I left the Faculty of Philosophy with a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies, a field which finally taught me how to understand it. Today, I like to believe my art exists somewhere between teenage naivety and adult understanding, between fingers dipped in paint and critical theories of the body.
Susan Sontag once wrote: “To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.” That is why, as someone equally terrified of, and fascinated with transience, I find myself taking portraits – freezing people in time and shedding light on the profound beauty that lies within the transitory nature of life.
